1 Samuel 8
The Isrealites ask for a king
They are warned about what having a king will do to them as a nation, but they do not care - they just want to be like everyone else!
"Listen to them and give them a king "
It is interesting that even Samuel's sons turned away from God just like Eli's did... Samuel was the one to call him (Eli) out on it, yet made the same mistake somehow.
She asked about gaining a king Samuel wisely seeks God's council and eases the wound by letting Samuel know that the people are rejecting God... Not Samuel.
On one hand this could be reassuring to the person of Samuel, but ultimately it is a great disappointment. Jesus let the Diciples know this as well, knowing that they would face opposition!
The people want a KING to fight their battles (HELLO where have you been? Has not God been f
Doing this?)
The 'cool' thing to do is like this now. We can want what is cool and what the people that seem to have better than us have - but in the process you LOSE God!
God chooses the king... Is He still choosing them?
1. The importance that God has put on legacy
What does that mean? We need to have things that make us remember what God has done for us and let others know about those. This can mean SO MUCH for someone!
2. God will always behave within HIS character
In giving the people what they wanted He let them know what that would mean and LET them CHOOSE it on their own. Later. They would blame HIM for a choice that was truly theirs!
Sometimes we want a part of the character of God based on where you are, but it may not be what His will us for you right now.
Where has God brought you?
Who is it that you want God to be?
Is that in His perfect will for you right now?
