Lesson taught by Tim, note taken by derk
2 Samuel 18 & 19
David amazingly shows mercy to his son.. Even though he basically overthrew him.
6-10
Those must have been some really crazy woods...
Have you ever been caught up in a difficult situation?
11-15
This man really was well and sound with his logic as to why he did not do something to Absalom, but it did not matter to the others..
Faithful vs Vengeful? It seems Joab may have had something against Absolam.. Maybe because he was removed from his position.
David always seems to lean on mercy... How come all these guys have not figured that out?
How many times have we done the wrong thing and God had mercy on us?
Have you ever gotten "caught up" in a difficult situation or circumstance?
Have you ever done the wrong thing out of spite or vengeance?
16-18
Absalom's monument
19-32
These guys seemed to really race to tell the news.... Not sure I would be that excited knowing the truth of David's orders
33..19:1-8
David mourns his son's death and Joab pushes him to move out and encourage his troops... Showing true uplifting and thanks for them.
Is Joab right here.. David did seem to always mourn the deaths of others.. No matter Thier messed up choices
Have you ever mourned someone or something for the wrong reasons?
9-18
Joab gets replaced again.. Hmmm wonder why
They admit that THEY anointed Absalom over them
Have you ever put something in God's place?
What you 'feel' what you 'believe' should never be the rock solid TRUTH.. Instead... What does GOD say?
Shimei goes right to asking forgiveness... So.. What does David do?.. Gives mercy
Have you ever shown mercy to someone who didn't deserve it? Someone who wronged you?
24-30
Mephibosheth returns and we find out the truth of his loyalties...
And it seems that 'cut the baby in half' has happened before
His greatfulness is amazing.. Giving up his land.. Just being happy with the things that matter
31-39
David repays the kindness shown him.. At so amazing to see the wisdom of others that known when they are non longer in need of the blessing.. But move to give it to another..
Do we remember the kindness that others have shown us? How about God's kindness?
If we cannot repay the kindness that has been shown to us do we try to pay it forward when we can?
