The message is simple in this one. We, 'man', originally made in God's image - are deserving of the wages of sin (Rom. 6:23), because we have worked hard to commit our sins.
He, Christ, took our place - without Him living and dieing as He did, we had only one option - Death. Even without law (10 commandments, book of Deut, stuff like that) death reigned over the world. Between Adam and Moses, all died due to the sin that Adam (Romans 5:12-14) committed. With Adam we are all to die, but with Christ we can live, eternally. (1 Cor. 15:22)
So it is written: "The first man Adam became a living being"; the last Adam, a life-giving spirit. The spiritual did not come first, but the natural, and after that the spiritual. The first man was of the dust of the earth, the second man from heaven. As was the earthly man, so are those who are of the earth; and as is the man from heaven, so also are those who are of heaven. And just as we have borne the likeness of the earthly man, so shall we bear the likeness of the man from heaven.
1 Corinthians 15:45-49
with this scripture it is clear that Christ is a Substitution of Adam. In that, He(Christ) is our substitution. Which do you choose - to live in the 'dust' of Adam, or the 'heaven' of Christ. If we have accepted God's proposal and begun to turn our lives around, then we are going in a direction to have this 'Great Substitution'! It is possible, do not think that it is not! If Christ can be the new and last Adam, that means we can NOT have a part in what Adam's choice brought us!
