Getting Hit between the Eyes or THE DRYER BALL OF DEATH!!! (Blurb)

Would you like to listen instead?

I was under the weather a few weeks ago (which I do not understand that term ... time to fix that )

-----------------

Definition:

Under the weather: Colloquial expression for sick or ill as, for example, to be under the weather with the flu. The phrase "under the weather" came from British sailing ships. When a sailor became ill he was confined below deck out of the weather, so it was said that he was under the weather.SOURCE

I was laying on the couch and my son, Elijah (pictured above), wanted to throw a ball (also pictured above with Elijah) back and forth with me.  I had no problem with this - as I was not so bad off as to not be able to toss a ball to him, and catch it when he threw it.  BUT - The kid has an arm like that other kid in The Rookie of the Year ... sort of.

Anyway, I ended up getting hit RIGHT BETWEEN THE EYES with the dryer ball pictured above; and that REALLY hurt.  I thought there was about to be a waterfall of blood - or a bloodfall exiting from my nose 1.7 seconds after the impact.  Nothing like that occurred, but there was some SERIOUS PAIN that only got worse as the day continued.  As my 'under the weatherness' waxed off, my new headache was being slowly waxed on... This headache lasted for three days and taking medicine would only dull the pain... blah..

Anyway, I did not die!  But another little boy (not Elijah) with a stone (not a dryer ball) took out a giant by hitting him between the eyes.  I am now in full understanding of the true possibility of this.  Not that I really doubted it before - and prefer not to learn by being smashed in the head, but I GET that this method is effective!

Interestingly enough I venture to say that this method should be used for any situation that may come up when you are just not going about things right. The term is used as such:

I didn't know what was wrong... until it HIT ME!
I was just STRUCK by an idea!

I guess one could say that this idea struck me ... right between the eyes.

Kidding aside, I feel that often I am struck by God 'right between the eyes' on multiple occasions. I sometimes have a 'Goliath' inside me that wants to be in charge and belittles all those little 'mes' into fear - keeping me from doing the things that God has called me to do.  Being hit in the face in these times - kills the 'Goliath' - by bringing in the 'David'' I am in need of.

Often it really is the least expected thing that brings me, or possibly you, out of these situations.

Goliath dealt with 'a small solution' by saying this:

And the Philistine said to David, Am I a dog, that you should come to me with sticks? And the Philistine cursed David by his gods. 1 Samuel 17:43 AMP

In hindsight... well Goliath did not have a choice of hindsight - BUT if he had, I am sure he would realize that his mouth was almost worse than him being there to fight the Israelites.  Something I want my kids to learn as they grow older is understanding how to react in situations that could cause strife.  I am not that great at it, if I feel conflict - no matter who or what it comes from - I take offense and fight back with whatever I have.  There are plenty of times that I have kept my mouth shut and keep myself out of trouble, but... yeah - not always the best at that.

So, what is your 'Goliath'?

What needs a good hard hit in the forehead in your life/mind/attitude/heart?

When that 'David'' comes along - let it be, what it needs to be!

Oh! and keep in mind, even if though you will likely not die - it WILL HURT!
