What dErK taught tonight ... if you missed out

V

Lesson taught by Derek - Notes taken by Savannah

Judges 19

Isreal had no king. That's how it always starts.
No direction or leadership.

No names mentioned in this story. Which is probably done for a reason. BC this is not a pretty story.
This story is not a pretty picture of Christianity IF you don't take it the right way.

Levite had a concubine. An unfaithful one.
Goes to the father's house to get her back.
Fatheebtries to keep him there but levite wants to leave. Did the father maybe have insight as trouble what would happen when they left?
*never does it say anywhere "God said"
regardless of servants suggestions, levite will not stop in a non isrealite city. Too dangerous.
Spent the night in gibeah, no one would give them board. Offense to God not to house a levite in need.
Finally old Mann let them stay.

Derek: "and then we get. To the bad part."
Peden: "WOAH "
Derek: "yeah stop reading for a minute "

NOTE. THE LEVITE BYPASSED FOREIGN CITIES TO AVOID TROUBLE.

BUT. Isrealites attacked the house demanding to lay with the levite.
Old man: "no but here have my virgin daughter and this concubine"
Raped and abused concubine till day break. She crawled back and died at the door step.
Levite comes out and just says "get up. Lets go."
Takes her home, cuts her up into twelve pieces to send to the tribes.
Vs 30 "everyone who saw it said, 'such a thing has never been seen or done, since the days of the isrealites came up out of Egypt. Think about it! Consider it! Tell us what to do!'"

How could the levite be so dense? So unaffected?
Obviously he was upset, but vengeance rather. Than necessarily remorse.
His sentence to the tribes.

Hosea 9:9,"they have sunk deep into corruption, as in the days of gibeah. God will remember their wickedness and punish them for their sins."

Hosea 10:9, "since the days of gibeah, you have sinned, Israel, and there you have remained. Will not war again overtake the evildoers in gibeah?"

God remembers.

You want to look at the Bible and think "these are the answers. Good, clean, perfect." But perfect doesn't mean what you think it means.
If it only told us the good things, we couldn't believe it as truth. "If Peden never told me bad news, he is probably lying."
This story shows us that God doesn't hide things.
"The whole truth and nothing but the truth."
Sometime God is the only good Guy.

"It has a lot to do with timing. I don't think David was a man after God's own heart when he was up on Bathsheba." Derek
