Something that has always been firmly planted in my minds eye, ever since seeing the movie 'Daddy Day Care' is the part where good 'Ole dad runs his loving son directly into the door... while talking about how good he can take care of kids.
There are many reasons this sticks in my head so well - one of the most prevalent being that my son, Elijah, runs into things constantly.. without my help.
Not that he is some crazed footballer.. but that he does this .. 'on a accident'. It usually happens to him when he is quickly turning around and running back through a doorway... he misses the opening by just enough to slam his head into the side of the door. (He has also done this because he fell off something, but that is not what I am talking about here)
I began to think on why he always seemed to hit his head.. then... it hit me. In my office I live in a cubicle .. and they have nice good openings to each 'pen' that are for some reason very attracted to my arms and shoulders. I hit them all the time while turning near the opening. This is the same problem Elijah has - though he hits his head because he is short and his head is much harder in proportion to his shoulders then me.
Goodness - I bet we all do this.. all the time... just.. pay attention.. and you will not run into things, right? It should be that easy.. but it is not. We get excited - we have a dire need at the time to quickly turn .. or move toward that wall - yet we find quickly that .. the wall - will not move for us... and we get a nice bruise from it.
A few days later.. we turn one way - we lift our arm to just the right elevation and a spiking pain runs though us - and we wonder what could have caused us so much pain? We beat our brains in trying to remember what we did recently to hurt ourselves.
We will likely not remember - and the same occurs spiritually. Something bad happens - something that is painful and just as it is painful it is also a mystery. Why did it happen - what did I do to make it happen?
Lets say you ran out of gas.. guess what - you probably did not fill the tank.
Lets say that your car breaks down.. maybe you never had it checked.. ever.
Lets say your kid is failing in class ... maybe you have not been working with them.
Lets say that things where you are at church are going the way YOU want them to.... Maybe you have never spoken up and offered help?
Sometimes the answer to a problem is simpler than you think. There may be a huge spiritual battle, but there is also just you.. and remembering that one time you bumped your arm.. guess what? It is ok that you forgot.. but when you remember.. are you going to slow down? or go on as you have in the past?
The path your are on NOW determines the one you will be on later - is there a wall in front of you? or any other hindrance?
When is the last time you 'bumped your arm?
