2 Samuel 11
Traditionally this passage has a focus on David and Bathsheba ... but instead we want to look more on Uriah
There was fighting.. and David sends men out, but stays home.. this may not really be the best act of a King and we certainly can see how he ended up in a wrong place at a wrong time.
David gains an idea of the problem he has created when Bathsheba ends up being pregnant, and David's reaction is to try and cover up his mistake by using Uriah.
Amazingly Uriah does not go home ... He sleeps OUTSIDE! Even when David gets him drunk he still keeps his morals..
We actually see through Uriah, the proper dedication that we should have seen from David in this situation.
David's perseverance in trying to hide his mistake is very telling in his 'blindness' of moral and proper Godly ways... going, of course as far as making sure that Uriah died in battle.. the pen truly is more mighty than the sword.
Now that David has shown some 'covering' and pushing the 'truth' it has already moved to his commanders as they also are using circumstances to 'hide' their mistakes as well
Have you ever tried to cover up a sin that you committed?
David's sin was only escalated as he tried to hide it.
Other thoughts:
Be careful when you are not where you should be.. when you are your 'most comfortable' you will be attacked.
We only see four days of Uriah's life, but it seems to be enough to show us an amazing man, with wonderful virtues and upright attitude. His four days are really showing a great way to live life.. our 'moment' may be small, but the legacy lives on forever.
Interesting that this happens right after David becomes King and is really a huge high point.
Sometimes getting caught can be .. or is your greatest way to begin to move into change.
.Not only can big things be sins that bring you to this point.. that they can actively create a spirit of 'cover up' in your life
