Is Chivalry Dead? (Blurb)

Two weeks in a row, Elijah seems to be the star...

When we were having our Men's meetings one of the things that was heavily gestured for us to do was to regain our roles properly.  To see others as those we can serve.  One of the simplest actions mentioned was opening doors for the lady folk.

I felt I always did a good job with this, but could easily see my failings in showing my wife my desire to show her my care and love.  I began to open her car door for her.  Nothing big.. nothing too out of the ordinary, except for the fact we both have always just walked to our car and got in.. no need to worry about the other.. they can handle it.

Sometimes I would race to beat her to her door to get it open.  Really there is no use in making her wait.. she might as well get in.. right?.. honestly.. this was always my excuse before as to why I would not do it.

The thing telling me it really was right and good, was Elijah's reaction.

One day as we were all herding out of Chick-fil-a.  Elijah runs AROUND the van, and in doing so makes his mother and my bones jump out of our skin thinking he is running into the street behind the van.  As he nears Melanie, with me and her yelling, Mel scolds him for running there.  He promptly looks up at her and states, "I open door for you mommy.."  Immediately we realize his true motives, and both apologize for yelling and getting on to him (though still making sure he understands it was not safe to go near the street side of the van without us).

It has been a good amount of time since this happened and he still will do his best to hold the door open for his mommy, and even others when he has the chance.  He truly enjoys it.  I hope and pray to always be an example my children can follow.

Has anyone every inspired you to do something you have never done?
