Mark Hewes - Stockholm Christmas (Free Music, Review) @markhewes @noisetrade #comedy #songwriter

For Fans of :     Derek Webb, Sufjan Stevens, "Weird Al" Yankovic, Christmas Music, Fruitcake

14 Songs

Overall Thoughts:

A Christmas parady of Derek Webbs album Stolkholm Syndrome.. which was .. a very deep set message album.. heavy, heavy in hard to swallow themes.though as well one of his coolest sounding albums... so.. this is right on with that.. very different Christmas music.. for certain.. the start more dealing with the more commercialized version of Christmas in a humorous way .. and then the end creating what seems to be more like serious Christmas songs

This is really a very through and well done parady of the album.. mostly keeping with the elements of the original songs.. and placing the Christmas themes within.. with a very good amount of humor .. but also in a serious way.. which I found some of those to be quite interesting.. one because I am not certain if it is meant to be a joke or .. rather a serious toned song..

Recording Thoughts:

Good ... Professional

Stand Outs:

"Fat Guy" - all about that Good ol Santa that brings those presents..

"Black Fri" - the attitude that we as a nation have toward shopping and gifting.. esp... on Black Friday

"Santa, Please" - a curse word is placed in this one.. hmm.. maybe really following the line of Derek Webb in 'what matters more' ? (this one I will be deleting)

"What Matters More" - the non-joy of getting something for Christmas that you did not want..

"The Angels" - this is actually quite cool.. the cleverness of the joining of the two songs melded together.. a classic Christmas song about Christ mixed with the Derek Webb's beat

"Holding You" - holding Christ as a baby.. I would guess from a perspective of Mary.. interesting..

"Becoming An Elf" - honestly.. my favorite on the album.. and by the end.. you really feel bad for this elf..

"Mary & Joseph" - very much one of the best parodies .. so very cleverly done!

"Bethlehem" - very cool as well

"What You Jingle To Jangle" - a new beat to put Jingle bells. and .. well batman!

  1. Loved them all amazing talent. I would have to say tat Black Friday was the best. Love how it portrays the attitude of black Friday, and shopping in general I think

    1. Yes, that one certainly had some quite good 'filling' in the message department!
