Leveling Up Christianity #JustBeingHere #Blurb

Would it be nice to be known as a Christian Champion?

What this ends up making me think of is a video game with a leveling system, which most all do really.  The best example for this would be your DND (Dungeons and Dragons) type game, or an RPG (Role Playing Game) where leveling up gains you abilities and specialties. The object of a game like this is to 'pimp out' your character to a point where you are just obliterating the enemies without a problem.  You gain the best armor of the game, and learn the most powerful spells, as well wield the most wicked awesome weapon. Even from the start you work on 'rolling' a good score for your character to have the best attributes.  We see strongly the need for our 'stats' to be the best from the very beginning.

When I think of Champions in combination with the Bible I immediately think of David and Goliath.  If anything Goliath is the most 'pimped' out character in the game. A mega boss fight if you will.

His stats are an important part of the story:

 ...

A champion named Goliath, who was from Gath, came out of the Philistine camp. His height was six cubits and a span. He had a bronze helmet on his head and wore a coat of scale armor of bronze weighing five thousand shekels; on his legs he wore bronze greaves, and a bronze javelin was slung on his back. His spear shaft was like a weaver’s rod, and its iron point weighed six hundred shekels. His shield bearer went ahead of him.
-1 Samuel 17:4-7 (NIV)

 ...

Is it not true that we want this kind of visual presentation when someone else looks upon us.  For them to see in us great power and ability?  We want to be heroes to others, perfect miracles coming out of our shadows like Peter in the book of Acts.

What we have to accept, is it is not the 'leveling up' which does this to us.  No matter how 'great' we look or seem.  No matter the armor or weapons we feel we have gained; we must remember ... the power comes from God alone.

A best outlook is this:

...

But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong.
-1 Corinthians 1:27 (NIV)

...

Sometimes in our quickness to 'level' up we take the ill fitted armor offered and try to use the weapons we are not ready to use, believing they make us stronger.  Most of the time these things actually get used in an improper way.  Doing it this way we push others away from us and wall ourselves off.

This is dangerous.

We NEED the community others create by coming together in hopes of unity and growth.

At some point we have to set down the things we were never ready for and come to the battle as vulnerable as David was when he faced Goliath.  The only real protection David had was his trust in a wonderful God.

So peel off the armor you have been using to keep everyone away. Trust in God fully. Throw the tiny stone that seems powerless at the giant problem inside yourself.  I promise that giant will begin to fall if you do!

What do you use to keep people at bay and what do you think your biggest giant is?
