1 Samuel 15
First jump (Exodus 17:8-16)
This jump was written in a scroll to be remembered... And we see this come up here in 1 Samuel
It was the time that God decided to 'collect' on this promise
Saul sets up the army and is now ready to attack
They were instructed to take them out completely, but that is not what Saul did
God spoke to Samuel and sent the need or reprimand to Saul about how he (saul) messed up by not following instructions
Saul actually greets Samuel with good tidings and the thought that he did so well, but of course this is not true
This is very much like what happened when Moses came down from Sinai and found the people worshiping an idol... Yet Aaron had such an amazing response -like Saul's
Samuel responds to Saul's 'excuses' with "to obey is better than sacrifice" which is really one of the most awesome parts of scripture... In it is some powerful words that are much repeated throughout scripture
Psalm 40.. Heb 10:5-10, Psalm 51:16, 17, Proverbs 21:3, Matt 9:13, 12:7,
Are you focused on sacrifice or the obedience?
Saul was not focused on the right thing... Yes he was the leader but it did not ever mean he was doing the RIGHT thing
He did what he THOUGHT he should be doing instead of doing what was asked of him
Saul now is given his 'two week notice'
Samuel kills Agag to 'cleanse' the mistake
Saul from now is left on his own (without wise counsel)
